Workout Myths

Eating less food will make you lose weight:

Your body is genetically predisposed for prehistoric times. It’s used to caveman YOU going out, bopping a brontosaurus on the head with a club, eating and then not knowing when the next hunt will be successful to eat again. Your body has no idea there’s a supermarket or 7-11 that you can go to and eat anytime you want. Your body is always prepared for a famine. So, if you’re not feeding your body adequately, your body will start to enter “starvation mode”. Fat is your body’s most abundant source of energy and what your body will survive off of if there ever were a famine. If you’re not eating enough your body is going to block you off from burning fat and then it is going to take everything you put in your body and store it as fat in case of that famine. That’s your body’s way of taking care of you. Stick with a proper nutrition plan. You can eat a lot and look great!

Carbs are bad:

Carbs fuel fat burning! Carbohydrates are your bodies preferred source of fuel. Carbohydrates provide your body with the energy to burn calories. The key is not to cut carbs, but eat good complex carbohydrates.

You should do cardio before lifting weights if you want to burn fat:

Cardio burns both carbs and fat. Cardio before your weightlifting workout depletes your body of glycogen (stored carbs) which is your body’s fuel for energy during weightlifting. Use as much glycogen as possible during your weightlifting workout and you will burn a higher percentage of fat quicker and more efficiently when doing cardio after.

Doing crunches or working on an ab machine will get rid of belly fat:

There is no such thing as spot reduction. It’s not possible to just burn fat in one area of your body. Crunches/Situps/Legraises etc all work your abdominal muscle. To get rid of belly fat, you most lower your total body fat throughout your entire body. The key to a flat belly is a combination of strength training for your entire body, cardio exercise, and a proper nutrition program.

Women who lift weights will get bulky:

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, women’s bodies do not produce enough testosterone to turn into She-Hulk! You probably couldn’t do it if you tried. However, when you lift weights, your body builds muscle. The more muscle you have on your body the more calories your body burns (even at rest). Lifting weights will make you leaner and more toned.
